District Zouk Monday Practica

Come out and try Brazilian Zouk for the first time, or improve your Brazilian Zouk skills!

Level 1 (7:15-8:15pm) Fundamentals
Learn the fundamental steps, movements and lead/follow technique in zouk. No experience or partner necessary. Drop-ins are welcome any week, but we start a new cycle on the first Monday of every month and cover a full cycle of fundamentals each month.

Head Movement Conditioning (7:15-8:15pm)
This is not your typical dance class, but will level up your understanding of personal body mechanics, mobility limitations, and conditioning practices to improve head movement. Drawing on techniques from yoga and physical therapy, Raven will walk you through the muscle engagement required to accomplish comfortable, supported, and safe head movement as well as the core body mechanics to execute this unique and beautiful expression of Brazilian zouk. Be ready to get on the ground (on yoga mats), sweat, and build body awareness. Comfortable, stretchy clothes required – we will be upside down, rolling around, etc.
Disclaimer: Modifications will be provided for all conditioning drills so they are accessible to all bodies regardless of flexibility, injury, etc. Everyone is welcome!!

Note: this is a solo class – no partnerwork involved.

Level 2 (8:30-9:30pm) Technique & Variations
Aimed at people who have learned the basics and want to take their dancing to the next level, we will focus on lead/follow technique as well as more complex movements and patterns.
Note: beginning June 17, the solo technique class will be Head Movement Conditioning.

Practica (9:30-11 am)
Practice what you’ve learned in a safe environment – lights on, and you’re free to ask questions of each other and instructors. The practica is included with attendance at either drop-in class, or you can come just for the practica.
