SCHEDULE

*** FRIDAY EVENING – VENUE: Edgewood Arts Center ***

8:30 pm – 10:00 pm
>> TEACHERS: Gui & Megan
>> TOPIC: The Brazilian Zouk Embrace
>> LEVEL: Open Level
>> DESCRIPTION: Like most Brazilian partner dances, Brazilian Zouk has in its core the close embrace. Gui’s career as a dance instructor started with his teachings about the close embrace in Brazilian Zouk, and in this workshop we’ll get to learn its most important elements. There is a lot going on behind a comfortable embrace and we’re excited to offer you an opportunity to learn more about it and bring coziness into your dance.

10:00 pm – 1:30 am

>> Brazilian Zouk Social Dancing
>> DJs: Rx and Chapibol

*** SATURDAY DAY – DanceSport Dupont Circle ***

In order to attend these Saturday workshops, we require you to be in our Basics 3 course and above, meaning that you have more than 4 months of continuous Brazilian Zouk learning and dancing.

2:30 pm – 4:30 pm

>> TEACHERS: Alisson and Hermela
>> TOPIC: Travelling and Floor Craft
>> LEVEL: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate
>> DESCRIPTION: In Brazilian Zouk, we normally dance inside our own circular bubble. There are moments when it feels great to travel across the floor, but there are also moments when we barely have enough space to move.

In this workshop, we will share some tips and tricks on how to react to both. We will use some of our Fundamental Moves to give Followers and Leaders the skills to travel or to squeeze and still dance your best, even when it seems impossible to complete your movements.

30 mins Break

5:00 pm – 7:00pm

>> TEACHERS: Gui and Megan
>> TOPIC: Gui’s Favorite Moves
>> LEVEL: Advanced Beginner/Intermediate
>> DESCRIPTION: Since this is Gui’s send off weekender, nothing is more appropriate than getting to learn some of his favorite movements. Exploring the fundamentals is the idea, so we’ll get to study some interesting variations and direction changes that might look easy but offer a delightful level of challenge.

*** SATURDAY EVENING – VENUE: Edgewood Arts Center: ***

6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

>> TEACHERS: Ashley and DZ Team
>> TOPIC: Brazilian Zouk Fastrack Bootcamp
>> LEVEL: Beginner
>> DESCRIPTION: Interested in learning Brazilian zouk or trying a new role? Join us for this intensive bootcamp where we’ll start from the basics and learn how to dance them with a partner. This bootcamp will move quickly to pack as much as we can into these 3 hours. This will be your fastrack to dancing Brazilian zouk!

9:00 pm – 9:30 pm Practica
>> Bootcamp participants can practice what you learned in a comfortable environment with lights on and opportunities to ask questions. For those coming for the social, come early and help our beginners practice!

9:30 pm – 10:00 pm
>> TEACHERS: Alisson Sandi
>> TOPIC: Solo Technique and Fun Variations
>> LEVEL: Open Level
>> DESCRIPTION: Warm up for our evening social with some fun variations of zouk fundamentals.

10:00 pm – 1:30 am

>> Brazilian Zouk Social Dancing
>> DJs: Chuky + WarHoll

*** SUNDAY – VENUE: Edgewood Arts Center: ***

In order to attend these Sunday workshops, we require you to have completed our Fundamentals 2A or 2B course or an equivalent level, meaning that you have at least 8 months of continued Brazilian Zouk learning and dancing.

3:15 pm – 4:45 pm

>> TEACHERS: Alisson and Hermela
>> TOPIC: Musicality through Variations of Brazilian Zouk Rhythms
>> LEVEL: Intermediate
>> DESCRIPTION:
When the music changes, so should we! Did you know we have different rhythms to play with in Brazilian Zouk? We normally dance on a common rhythm and timing that allows us to remain connected to the music and our partner at any given time, but there are moments in music when we can play and use other variations. In this workshop, we will explore the 4 main variations of rhythm and timing, and how to use them together or separately for Followers and Leaders.

15min Break/Practica

5:00 pm – 7:00 pm

>> TEACHERS: Gui and Megan
>> TOPIC: The Joy of Shifting Weight
>> LEVEL: Intermediate
>> DESCRIPTION: Shifting weight together is the joy of partner dancers. Once you reach a higher level of sensitivity and body awareness, the level of precision that can be reached is just incredible. In this workshop, Gui wants to share with you his passion about the complexity of the simplicity of walking together, which will unlock many possibilities in musicality, control, and footwork.
