DC Zouk Social & Workshops w/ Igor & Laure

Join us for workshops and a social with the one and only Igor Fraga AND his partner Laure Lalanne! Igor was one of the first guest instructors District Zouk hosted back in 2014. He’s now taught and DJ’d around the country and the world. This time he’ll be visiting us with his partner Laure from France who is in the US for just a few months touring with Igor.

We’re offering afternoon workshops for experienced zouk dancers that take advantage of Igor’s deep knowledge of music. Then in the evening we have an open-level workshop with our visiting instructors followed by a social.

If you’re in town over Thanksgiving weekend, come learn and dance with us!

SCHEDULE

AFTERNOON WORKSHOPS

1:30 – 3:00pm Changing Dynamics (Intermediate)
Part of what makes Brazilian zouk so fun is being able to play with timing to explore movement, engagement and musicality. In this workshop, you’ll practice speeding up and slowing down with control, enabling you to master your own movement and have more fun.

3:15 – 4:45pm Musicality Level 3 (Intermediate)
Dive deep into what makes us move and how to feel the music in our bodies while dancing with a partner.

4:45 – 5:15pm Practica
Practice what you learned.

EVENING CLASS & SOCIAL

8:30 – 9:30pm Visual and Physical Communication Workshop (Open Level)
Understand these different types of connection that we use in Brazilian zouk and how to communicate with our partners through a dance

9:30pm – 1:00am Social w/ DJ Fraga & DJ Chuky

LEVELS
To participate in the afternoon workshops, students should be in or have completed our District Zouk Fundamentals 2A or 2B class or above, or have equivalent experience.

The evening workshop is open to dancers who are familiar with zouk basics.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

Igor Fraga, originally from Brasil, started his zouk journey in 2012 training with ZoukNY founder, Kim Rottier. Since then he has taught all over North America in various congresses and festivals. For many years, Igor has been dedicating his work to residencies around the US helping the communities grow and improve. He specializes in fundamentals work for beginners in the dance. He’s also the director of a very successful beginner track program at the NYC Zouk Festival called Dare 2 Zouk and has gathered many trophies from JnJ competitions.
